Our Story
Collaboration is fun to talk about, but often difficult to bring to make happen. It was amazing to see how many stakeholders were willing to invest their time and resources into the Launch movement. In early 2018, Lisa Greenwood and Bishop Janice Huie of the Texas Methodist Foundation met with the innovation studio We Are Curio to dream about building a culture of courage and innovation in the UMC. Our first step was to convene a think-tank of innovative UMC leaders to ideate what the Launch movement could be.
From that moment forward, it was incredible to watch SCJ Bishops, Foundations, and our design team rally around the movement to make Launch a reality.
There were two main themes we built launch around. The first is permission. Green is typically associated with “GO” and we wanted the launch movement and brand to be a symbol that stands for the “permission to launch.”
The second theme is alignment. Launch is a place where tradition and innovation intersect — we do not see “old” and “new” in conflict with one another. At times they may be out of sync, but when they are brought into alignment with the mission and vision, the courage to do great things follows.
